Oops

I overslept my alarm today and didn't make it to church.

That alarm was set to 8:15 AM.

I woke up at 9:45 AM, the very time our church service begins, because my dear husband called and woke me up.

How did that happen? I hate it when that happens. Is this Karma again because I said that Karma was a (shhh) you know what?

Karma rears her ugly head and laughs: I'll show YOU not to call me dirty names! You don't want to get up early?! FINE. Sleep in as much as you want and look like an irresponsible, lazy don't-want-to-go-to-church princess to all your church friends! Mwahh-Ha-ha-HA!

Those 5's will come mighty early this week.

But it's OK, it's OK! I love waking up in the 5's. I am such a morning person. I can't wait to wake up to the smell of coffee, step outside on my patio, and take in a deeeeep breath of that fresh, exhilerating, morning air.....while gazing at the.....moon.

Remember... Honolulu and Paris.

When it's 5am in Houston, it's already noon in Paris. You're just a little jet-lagged is all. Get your mind and body on Paris time and you can sleep in until noon!

I'll say it: KARMA IS A BITCH.

Roll that up and smoke it, karma.

... I'm so dead, aren't I?

Karma does not accept such platitudes. You're dead all week.

By the way, I get up in the fives every day, and usually don't get to bed till past midnight. So quit yer bellyaching and suck it up, Ms. FancyPants.

You sinner! And with that last paragraph you can add lying to your list of sins! As penance, you must get up at 4:30 every morning for the next week. Just don't call your sister in law at that hour. She needs her beauty rest badly.

All this talk of Karma and calling Karma names reminds me of something that happened many years ago in downtown Houston...

I went with a few of my friends from high school to a rock concert at Sam Houston Coliseum (I don't remember which concert it was, I saw so many shows there, and wasn't always fully cognizant when I left...)

Anyway, we were standing there on the street after the show, waiting for the father of one of the other guys to pick us up, when right there in front of us, a group of yutes ran up to a young couple leaving the concert and grabbed both of their concert shirts out of their hands, and punched the guy in the stomach and threw him down.

We immediately rushed over to help them and make sure they were okay, and began looking around to see if we could identify and chase down the guys who had done it (I think there were three of them), but the guys were long gone. They had probably planned it out beforehand, they swooped in so quickly and made the grab, and had run off so quickly into the large crowd that finding them became impossible.

Aside from being a little shaken up (and being out two new concert shirts), the young couple seemed to be fine. They stayed and talked with us a few minutes, and the girl kept saying "That's okay, bad Karma is going to get them." She seemed really confident about it, and didn't seem too terribly bothered at what she had just been through.

Afterwards as we were riding home, the guys I was with were discussing what the girl kept saying. One of them said "I was wondering the whole time who Bad Carmen was, and how he was going to get these guys," and we had to explain to him the whole idea of Karma and what the girl was really saying and what she meant by that expression.

Kind of a dumb story, but every time I hear the expression "bad Karma", I think of it. Watch what you do! Bad Carmen is going to get you.

You hear that, Cach?

You're so dead. Bad Carmen is after you now, buddy.

Euphrony, when I first read your comment and the word, "bellyaching", I read it like

bell-YACH-ing (the "ch" being soft like in German)

I thought it was some Yiddish term I should know about.

I had to get up at 5am every morning back in my working days, and I got so used to it that I still have trouble sleeping past 7am. And I always used to be such a night owl. I guess it was training for my mommy days...at least I'm not too upset when the kids wake up too early!

And Rob...that's a great idea to think about it being noon in Paris. Tomorrow morning, I think I'll imagine people going to lunch in Paris so I'll feel like I'm missing something if I don't go ahead and get up. :)
