Sound of Music Update

The Van Trapp Children
Minus Friedrich (who wasn't at rehearsal for some reason or another)

Rehearsals for Sound of Music are going well. I'm not sure what could be more fun than spending four hours a day pretending to be 16 years old. Life doesn't get much better than that. I have the best little brothers and sisters in the world. Today during break we formed a line, joined hands, and did "the wave" back and forth for a whole five minutes. Then we played "Down by the Banks," that game where you make a circle and sing and slap each other's hands...OK, I have no idea how to explain it but it's great fun when you're allowed to act 16. I even get in trouble for talking during rehearsal because I forget that I'm an adult and that I should know better.

Seth says I come home from rehearsals glowing. You would, too, if your only care for the evening was how to act like a kid. My little sister, Marta, is a friend of mine from church. She's in 2nd grade. Her mom told me that when she started acting a couple of years ago, she came home from rehearsal, laid down on her bed, and said, "Mom, where has this been all my life?" I know exactly how she feels.

If you're around these parts, come on out and see the show! Here are the dates, times and info:

Friday, July 27: 8 PM
Saturday, July 28: 8 PM
Sunday, July 29: 3 PM

Buy tickets online at www.fortbendtheatre.com or call 281.208.3333.

The performances will be here, directions to the theatre here.

Hope to see you there!

I actually forwarded this to the wife...but in the process I think I lost a bit of my manhood....

Wow, that's less than two weeks away.

Will a DVD of the performance be made available for those of us who are unlikely to be able to be there?

A note to all men:

Being a theatre patron does NOT make you gay. Get over it and buy the tickets. =-)

C ham'n'eggs:

I'm pretty sure a video of the show breaks copyright laws, but an archival video might be made available to me....

I'm not sure what you are insinuating, Fancy, with that gay comment. Do you expect men to be homophobic cretins who hate art, drink only beer and eat only nachos, and never, ever attend live productions? I don't know if that describes Seth, but I for one have seen my share of live shows. (Of course, being married to a woman with an MFA in directing from UH has influenced that.)

Hey, I didn't know that, Euph! That's really cool.

And, my comment was passive agressively meant for DR. No, I don't think that, and Seth loves SOM. But I have heard the sentiment expressed by more than one man that hasn't been around theater much.

Thanks kddub! I will definitely be posting pictures. I know you guys will just love seeing me in the curtains outfit or my Austrian concert attire. Eh hem. Not a choice I would make in real life, those costumes....

Hey Austin! Well shoot, if you have to be in Euro... You're a sought after guy, Austin. I suppose I'll have to let it slide. I do hope the wife and kids can come. Thanks for the encouragement, and have a great trip!

My wife and I will be there on Friday night. I can't wait! I've never seen it on stage, although we've enjoyed watching the movie version many times. It's my wife's favorite movie, in fact.

Bill, that's great! See you next Friday.

Fantastic show! We had a wonderful time last night and were very impressed with all the performances. You were awesome as Liesl - you really brought the character to life. I almost thought you really were sixteen!
