Get Ready. It's Contagious.

Many of you have probably already seen this. I found it on Brant's blog, and I loved what he had to say about it.

Does anyone else think this is a little scary?....just sometimes?

A laughing baby is scary?

Well, it's just when the baby stops laughing and kind of stares wide-eyed off into who knows where...and THEN starts laughing again. Just a little scary.

Okay, I'll go ahead and over analyze it, just for the heck of it.

One thing I notice is that at first, the baby's laughter is sincere. The noise his dad is making is truly the funniest thing in the whole world. Then, it seems like he starts trying to force himself to laugh some more, just because it was so much fun when his laughter was real. It's like he's saying "Please, do that funny thing one more time, I enjoyed laughing!"

But the laughter is a little more forced then. The same noise is only fun and surprising so many times, then it's just not the same.

It's like a microcosm of so many other things about the human experience. When things are brand new and novel to us, we have genuine joy and passion, and can't help but be swept away by the feeling of that moment. But after a little time, the newness has worn off, and we long for that feeling again. So we sort of go through the same motions that brought that feeling the first time, but now they are no longer giving us the same sensation.

What say you, FancyPants?
